He bashes the “corrupt,” profit-driven US healthcare system for distorting the goals of medical care. “Nobody’s out there trying to prevent cancer, they’re all so busy treating it because you get paid for it,” he says. —– Rife with inefficiency, injustice, corruption and rising costs, current medicine is exhibiting all the symptoms of a languishing patient, says Dr. Bortz. It may be time to put our medical system through major therapy. Simultaneously, a rigorous new science is teaching us that prevention truly is the best way to stay healthy. – Commonwealth Club of California Walter Michael Bortz is an American physician who promotes the possibility of a 100-year lifespan while working at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is one of America’s leading scientific experts on aging and has written several bestselling books.
Fault Lines looks at the US healthcare system, exposes its cracks, and uncovers the forces that are spending millions of dollars every day to influence the debate over the US healthcare reform.

Its not mere ‘profits’ that have corrupted health care. It’s the inordinate profits available to the politically connected, whose govt influence skews the field in the favor of the power players.

Peace Health and Love to you all!
so should doctors and pharmaceutical representatives be in black trench coats instead of white lab coats
this is why we do not need another healthcare bill it will only make pharmaceutical companies even more powerful!
also the infertility rates are increasing because of GMO (cough) wheat, I mean wheat (sacracism). Genetically modified wheat is causing this problem. they predict the the 7th or 8th generation will be infertile. we are in the 6 or 7th generation.
the love of money is the root of all evil,so the love of profits corrupts, so its BOTH!
drug money…blood money

NHLBI’s ATP III which steers cholesterol treatment is 8 of 9 funded by the statin producers.
USDA’s DGAC decides what food is good and nearly all 13 are funded by grain companies.
Lobbyists drive healthcare policy, and the world is paying for it.

You really think the insurance company’s are losing with this new bill? The government has just guaranteed them tens of millions of customers. Now all incentive to provide a better service, even if there was just a little, is lost. I bet they’ve helped pushing the bill themselves with their lobbyist. People should get off the idea that big corporations and governments are rivals. The only cure for bad corporations is competition, not bigger government.
How refreshing to here someone admit the medical profession is corrupt. I’ve suffered with Lyme disease for twelve years and have encountered nothing but hubris, arrogance, and incompetence in the medical field. It’s been romanticized on television and now it is a power structure out to make money. It’s so rich it can no longer be fought against. Doctors are elitists of our society who have no organization but their own to police their practices. If a doctor doesn’t help you; don’t pay.
What is really sad is our kids will not live as long as us. We are bioaccumulating so many industrial toxins in our bodies that by the time the next generation matures new cancers new treatments, and special high effective cures will be only available for the rich. 700 new chemical compounds are released into the environment each year untested unregulated and unreported. YOu think the Gulf oil spill is bad wake up American fools you are being butt f$%#@d as you smile and take your viagra.
Sorry to say, but sometimes I feel that some heads of healthcare need to be executed unless they start thinking about people’s lives but not their own profit. Let’s face it – they are the greatest murderers. To be honest I wish no one to be executed, but if are the doctors make money upon the grave of your patients… Sorry for being such brutally honest, but the brother of my friend passed away because of the doctor’s lousy work. It still hurts to recall that:(::

Every American should be ashamed of that fact.
“The United States, which spent more than any other nation on health care, was ranked 37th and trailed countries such as Colombia and Morocco, which had much lower levels of health spending. Italy, Spain, Oman, Austria, and Japan all captured spots in the top 10″ Encyclopedia Britannica, 2008.
THANK YOU!!!
Finally, someone who sees the corrupt system.
Bravo!
Thanks for sharing.
You bring up an interesting point. “Corporatisim” is different than Capitalism because Corporations destroy and obstruct a Free Market society by using and manipulating the government through insane lobbying. An example of this would be Clarence Thomas working as a lawyer for Monsanto before becoming a corrupt “Associate Justice of the Supreme Court”. It was Thomas whom allowed Monsanto to patent DNA of seeds and then sue farmers for Monsanto’s ‘patented’ seeds getting into farmer’s farm.
I don’t see the difference between Capitalism and Corporatism. In a Capitalistic system, the government will ALWAYS be run by big business, so how could you ever have a “free-market-capitalistic” society.
The only difference I see is that corporatism is the reality and free-market-capitalism is a fantasy that could never exist.
